Problem with max br1 mini

Hello - Please forgive my lack of technical speak or knowledge, but here goes…

We have a 2019 Airstream RV and it came with the “Pepwave MAX BR1 Mini” router for hotspot / wifi service using a 4G data sim card. We’ve been using AT&T for service and all has been fine. The last data plan recently expired and when we renewed the yearly plan AT&T sent us a 5G replacement sim card.
The new 5G sim card never would allow the system to connect. The lights would blink, but it never connected or provided internet service.
We contacted Airstream for support but they were absolutely no help. The AT&T salespeople thought maybe our router would not support the 5g sim card and gave us another 4g sim card. It will not connect either.
One problem is the router is factory wired with the antennae’s being mounted on the roof of the RV, as well as the power source being “hard wired” from the airstream manufacturer, thus making it impossible to remove the router for me to test in another location or at the AT&T store, without buying another router just to test.
FYI - The RV is currently parked in a covered building / shop. The system had been working perfectly (parked in the shop) until the day the old plan expired, so I don’t believe this to be the problem.

Anyone have any idea what we should do? Please keep it in simple terms as we are severely lost in the tech world.

Thanks for any and all help!

Hi Mark,

I work very closely with Airstream and can help you with this.

What data plan expired and what yearly plan did you renew? The $360 annual all-you-can-eat plan is long gone and I’m not aware of any other yearly plan available.

@Mark_Hill

Can you send a picture of how it’s permanently mounted?
Just wanted to see.

We used the AT&T “Buy a session” for a year (March 2022 - March 2023). You are correct this plan is no longer available. We are now signed up for a $300.00 “data plan”, for one year.
One problem was AT&T sent us a sim card for a cell phone, and of course that didn’t work. After several frustrating phone sessions they changed the sim to a data plan. The new card was a 5g, and it still didn’t work. The Airstream service rep said we needed a 4g card. Back to AT&T and we eventually got a 4g sim card. That didn’t work either…
Tuesday evening, on a whim, I decided to switch the two sim cards. I took the old original sim card from slot “B” and put it in “A”, then put the new sim card in the “B” slot.
I turned everything on and surprisingly it connected to AT&T. I now have internet, albeit slower than before, but it is now working.
Any idea what happened other than blind luck?

Thanks for any input,

Mark

It’s working now, but I can provide a pic if you’d like to see how it’s factory mounted in the corner of a storage cabinet above the couch area. The power source as well as the antennae’s and other cables are routed to that spot. There’s a keyed switch to turn it off and on.

Yes, I’d still be interested to see how it is installed
