Private 5G / Band N48 with Peplink -5GH devices

To access N48 with your Peplink device, two requirements must be met.

  1. The cellular module needs to be updated to firmware 03.10.07.00 or above.
  2. The device needs to have been purchased in 2023 or later

**Updating your Cellular Firmware**

**Option 1 - Auto update via InControl 2** In your InControl organization page, go to Organization Settings > Device Management. ![Screenshot 2023-05-04 104018.png|616x246](https://s3.amazonaws.com/forum.peplink.com/uploads/1683168077917.png)

In the Device Management page, select all the device you’d like to update, and click on “Update cellular module firmware…” from the [Actions] drop-down list. Our system will then check all devices that are currently online and display applicable units for further action.

Option 2 - Manual update via [support.cgi]
You can access the support.cgi page, by replacing index.cgi with support.cgi in the url while you’re logged on to your Peplink device.

Go to Cellular module firmware update, click on “Check for update” and follow the on screen instructions.

Hi @Zachary_Chow

Can you elaborate on this:

The device needs to have been purchased in 2023 or later

Was there a hardware change on the most recent batch of EM9191 modules?

Hi Tim,

Yes, there was. Our latest 5G devices are using a newer version of the EM9191 cellular module. As long as the cellular firmware is up to date, it’ll be able support N48.

Thanks for the update Zachary.

Is this the same firmware that was posted in the announcement on March 27th (8.3.0s052 build 5265) and immediately removed?

It was previously reported that devices new and old, connecting to T-Mobile 5G service were having issues using the N41 band. The “fix” was to not use N41 and turn it off.
Since this update only applies to 2023 hardware to offer N48, is there a update coming for the older hardware to offer the same thing?

Guys does any know of and architecture and design documentation on how to setup Private 5G using Pepwave devices?

Hi Jibri,

For more information on the infrastructure side, I recommend taking a look at the Private 5G providers’ pages:

Hi Chris,

Yes, we’re currently working on a fix for the N41 issue that’ll be released in a future firmware update.
