Pepwave BR1 Mini not working after 7.1.0 update

I updated a BR1 Mini (LTEA; Sprint service) from 7.0.3 to 7.1.0 and even after about 15 minutes it was passing no traffic and the web admin wouldn’t load. The BR1 Mini is connected to a WAN port on a Balance One Core.

After factory reset, my main router is showing the BR1 Mini with IP address 192.168.50.10, but it still passes no traffic (“WAN failed DNS test”) and the web admin won’t load at http://192.168.50.1. No other hardware or cabling changes were made.

How do I recover?

I was able to factory reset the BR1 by connecting directly rather than through the Balance One (easier said than done since it’s in a hard-to-reach remote location), and by holding the reset pin in longer than the 10 seconds described in the manual. But 7.1.0 would not connect to Sprint with either the default config or reloading my config - I got continual Smart Check fails. So I’ve reverted back to 7.0.3 and I’m declaring 7.1.0 D.O.A. for now, at least for my combination of LTEA model and Sprint carrier.

I’m willing to help troubleshoot this if someone from Peplink support needs more info, I have two identically-configured LTEA Sprint BR1 Minis.

Can I confirm you don’t see the health check failed immediately after reverted to v7.0.3? If so, please open ticket for us to investigate.

I did not have any health check issues immediately after reverting to 7.0.3, or at all since then. I’ll open a ticket.
