I’ve got an Peplink Balance 700 here with firmware v4.8.2 build 1195.
Is this device still secure or should I replace it?
Is this th latest firmware? I onli can find Information about the Peplink Balance 710.
Any information is appreciated.
Thanks - Christopher
Hello.
Please… Check your device for a compatible firmware at https://www.peplink.com/support/firmware-archive/
Thank you. The interesting thing is: the Balance 700 is listed there, bot in the linked manuals is always referred to the Balance 710, the 700 is not mentioned there. So I wonder wether they are compatible? But when it’s listed, it should work.
Do you really have one of the original Balance 700’s? Is it still in service?
Does it look like this with the original PePLink branding?

If so, that router was released in 2006 - its 17 years old. Its time to power it off and replace it.
If you really want to keep it, you need to be running fw 6.3.4 (released in 2017) at the very least and you should make sure that the web interface is not accessible on the internet.
To get to 6.3.4 from your V4 firmware you’ll need to go via three important intermediate versions of Version 5:
5.0, 5.3.12, and 5.4.9 then you can upgrade to 6.1.0 and finally to 6.3.4
To get the V5 firmware you’ll have to log a ticket as they are not in the public archives.

Hello, Martin.
Who knows what they’ve been running, even today.
