Peplink Balance 20 Ports unmarked

Hello,

I’m trying to setup port based VLAN on the balance 20. But the ports have no label on the Balance 20. I thought it would go from left to right (1-4), but it doesn’t seem to assign the correct subnet IP via DHCP Is there something I could be doing wrong.

Thanks.

Hi river10!

The ports should be 1-4 from left to right when the ports are facing you. When you plug into port 1 and (for example) have that port set to only use VLAN 5, does it fail to give DHCP or does it give DHCP for a different VLAN than expected?

Any details you can give about what you are experiencing would be helpful.

I set the VLAN subnet for 192.168.1 and the main LAN subnet is 192.168.0

It is providing a IP for 192.168.0.X instead of 192.168.1.X from DHCP.

Thank You.

Do you have your ports set up as Trunk or Access ports?

Have you confirmed that the ports on your switch are set up with the correct VLAN tags?

Oh, I didn’t know that the switch needs to recognize the tags.

I thought anything plugged into the physical port (port 4 in this case) would belong to the subnet.

thanks.

This works as you thought but the port type needs to be “Access” for port 4.
