OpenVPN configuration question

I have a Peplink Transit set up with a speedfusion link to a virtual cloud-based router hosted by Vultr. This gives me a static IP to access my Transit from anywhere. I’m trying to set up an OpenVPN connection from my laptop to my local Transit network, so I can access local devices on the network. I successfully set up an OpenVPN connection to the Vultr-hosted router but somehow I can’t access the local network. I’m sure I’m missing a setting somewhere. On the OpenVPN configuration page, there is a ‘connected network’ field that is set to ‘untagged LAN’. Could that be the issue? Or is it a DNS issue? I want to be able to access local addresses like ‘homeassistant.local’ from my laptop. How do I ensure that I can access local devices on my transit network? Thanks much for any help.

Ok, so I found a partial solution. I created a static route on the Fusionhub to point to the IP address of my Transit. This allows me to access any local machine. However, only IP addresses work. I can’t use names like ‘homeassistant.local’. Any thoughts on how to fix this?
