New 100GB metered T-mobile mobile hotspot plan - will it work with a peplink pepwave device?

Hi @aquablue. I don’t know the specifics, but I do recall someone mentioning in a YouTube video that what is called “5Ge” is really using the 4G spectrum (no new bandwidth). So, in my case I’m not in a city core where the real 5G is located but I still see 5G on my phone. The speeds are pretty much the same as they have always been as far as I can tell.

Has anyone came up with an answer to the t-mobile speed issue on the max br1 mini?

I just ordered the 100g card. It will be here Saturday. I will let you know how it works. I ordered a t-mobile card from nomadinternet.com and it did not work. 500kbps max. its going back

With all my research of T-Mobile I have found setting band to 12 only increases download speeds by 80%
UPDATE: I recently installed the 100gb sim card Saturday with no luck at high speed internet until I set it to sprint band 41. I am now getting 9-10mps. Not what I would like to see but doable. Verizon gives me 20-30mps and AT&T gives me 30-40mps.

This plan works great. Over a two week trip at end of year I was routinely getting 50Mb+ down.

In rural az it also roamed at full speed on CELLONE. (coverage was great)

New to Pepwave - just got my Pepwave MAX Transit set up with SpeedFusion. I have two unlimited hotspot accounts, one prepaid with Verizon and one with OTR Mobile which is now (unfortunately) on T-Mobile.

Just came here to say (in case this helps anyone)… it looks like T-Mobile is now blocking the Pepwave. I also found this much more detailed post outlining this.

Is the above blocking from a t-mobile ‘reseller’ plan, or did you try one of these new data plans directly from t-mobile too ?

Only tried T-Mobile via OTR (reseller). As a workaround (for now), I’m using the OTR/T-Mobile account in a hotspot as a wifi connection in Pepwave. Does the trick until my AT&T SIM comes!

I was just about to make a post on this as it seems TMobile isn’t letting me past the IMEI checker in order to get the 100GB/$50/month prepaid plan.

Which model do you have?
Does it give you a “not all features may work” type message or does it disallow you from ordering?

I had to call it in. I could never finish the process on the website.

So were you successful in getting the Tmoblie plan to work on the Max Transit cat18?

Not yet. I am currently waiting for my Max Transit. I have it working on a Cat 6 router.

Got it. Well I’m curious to find out if it does work on the Max Transit as I’ve seen blog posts that it’s been blocked. I know the MT has a different brand modem it than that other Pepwaves.

T-Mobile unlimited data plans (including resellers like OTR) will not work in the Cat18 (Telit LM960). Limited data plans work fine.

I have a Pepwave Max Transit Cat 18, the LM960 cellular modem. It is paired up with the Poynting 7 in 1 external antenna on top of my motorhome. Beginning of March 2021 I purchased the prepaid sim from T-Mobile, 100 gb plan for $50/month. I have had nothing but issues with it since purchasing. Have gone through tech support with 5G store (where I purchased router), pepwave tech support and T-Mobile tech support multiple times each. Have confirmed all settings are with the router are correct, setup is correct, signal strengths aren’t the absolute greatest, but should easily have good connection quality. Both 5G store and pepwave have confirmed the issue is with the T-Mobile network. After many times and several different support techs, finally got to one who knew about third party routers not purchased through T-Mobile. He had never even heard of the Pepwave Max Transit with Cat 18. He could not find an answer, but advised it would be escalated and problem fixed within 3-4 days. That was a week ago. As of today, download speed and connection strengths are in pics. I have tried multiple locations, no better speeds. The best download speed I have ever gotten was 2.03 mbps. Quite terrible so far and looking to cancel and just continue using my phone as a hotspot with the WiFi as Wan capability. Doing so I consistently get a minimum of 40-50 mbps. Haven’t tried AT&T or Verizon sims in the router yet, but will quickly be trying that. Another pic also shows a friend of mines phone connected to T-Mobile network, 1/2 mile from where my motorhome currently is with very fast download speeds. Clearly shows that T-Mobile’s network is not fully compatible with third party routers. If anyone has any advice, suggestions or questions I’m all ears.

Contact t-mobile executive team / consider filing FCC complaint?

I pulled down 98 GB last month ending April 16th on the T Mobile 100GB plan thru my Cat 18 Max Transit. -Bill

PS. It was very fast when near Las Cruces NM. When I was far out of town its been painfully slow, even though I have a B71 compatible antenna and router. < 1 Mbps.
