Max BR1 Mini interface speed and duplex issues

We are experiencing issues with the interface settings on MaxBR1 Mini devices. Firmware 7.0.3 build 2765

WAN license is not enabled, we have two LAN interfaces.

When connecting a straight cable between the LAN/Con port and a switch, with the port set to 100/Full and AutoNeg/Advertise Off, the link does not come up.
When replacing the cable with a cross-cable, the link stays down with the same settings.

When setting the speed/duplex to auto on the switch and the Pepwave, the link comes up, but on the pepwave it shows as 1000Mbps negotiated, which should be impossible, the switch has 100Mbps port and is not able to negotiate to 1000Mbps.

When connection the cable to the LAN/Wan port on the Pepwave, with the port set to 100/Full and AutoNeg/Advertise Off, the link works as expected. Both with a straight and a cross-cable.

When setting the speed/duplex to auto on the switch and the Pepwave, the link comes up, with a negotiated speed of 100Mbps. Which is correct.

A few questions arise;

Why are the ports not behaving the same?
Why do both cross and straight cables produce the same results? Does the Pepwave force MDI-X with AutoNeg disabled?
How can the LAN/Con port negotiate to 1Gbps when the switchport is only 100Mbps?

The above issues give us major headaches with a roll-out in which the WAN (fibre switch) and LAN (customer switch) devices are not managed by us.

Thanks in advance!

Thomas

I would say this is a common issue when connecting 2 different vendor devices together. Even Cisco devices also facing the similar issue. Detail info can be found using the following URL:

Normally, we will always manually specific the interface port speeds and duplex mode for both end devices to avoid troubleshoot the issue.

For your case, i would recommend you to open a support ticket for support team to further check for any abnormal behavior found.

Hi, thanks for your response.

We’ve tried with specifying the speed and duplex on both devices, that fails on the LAN/Con port and only works on the LAN/Wan port.

I’ve created a ticket for now.

Thanks,

Thomas
