Max BR1 Mini - Heavy Data Consumption

Hi

Can anyone assist me in specifying what I can do to minimize data consumption on the Max BR1 Mini units.

I have content blocking in place already.
I have data speed limitation enabled.

What else can I do?

PS. The users are using a RDP connection to do their work on remote systems…

Do you only want RDP traffic to be able to pass - nothing else?
You could use firewall rules to only allow RDP from the LAN if so.

Without knowing what data the device use it is difficult to suggest how you can minimize the data consumption.
This forum post contains some tips on how to reduce the data consumption:

It appears there is a “Health Check” option in the modem that was setup for checking every 10 seconds. I lowered this number to only check every 60 seconds. I will report my findings in a few days. This setting is only available if you login to the individual device, located in the modem configuration. I’m going to request an organization wide or group wide setting for this, as it is kind of time consuming to login to each individual device to monitor these settings.

We use these BR1 mini devices at multiple sites for this client, so not one sites are really the same… some require direct RDP connection only. Some require internet for mails, some for VoIP and other systems etc.

What I did notice is that they consume a lot more data (GB) over the PepVPN than straight internet connection.

The devices are set up to run on a LTE 4G connection using PepVPN to reach HQ…

They will consume at least 20% more bandwidth over VPN due to the additional bandwidth overhead of the VPN itself.
