MAX BR LTE - Cable test

While installing the Pepwave Max BR1-LTE with 4G Wifi MIMO System the trade has accidentally pulled off all the labels on the antenna leads. Is there a way to test to see which is which? The GPS is obvious but the others are not.

Thanks,
Mark

Do you have the photo that can share here ?

Hi @Maustin,

I don’t think there is an easy way to tell as all of the connections on the back of the BR1 are the same. However, 2 of the connections are for Cellular (Main & Aux). Therefore, as you know which cable is for GPS, I would suggest:-

Connect each of the other 3 cables to the “Main” cellular connection one at a time, do you see a cellular signal. If you do, this is likely to be one of the cellular antenna. I would expect that for one connection you would not see a cellular signal - this lead is most likely the WiFi Antenna.

Hope this helps,

Steve

Hi Steve,

Thanks for your reply this helps a lot. I assume there is not risk of damage by connecting the cellular onto the WIFI port and vice versa.

We will try this tomorrow, look forward to getting the system up and running.

Many Thanks,

Hi Mastin,

Can you confirm that there is no “Boosted” installed - if there is no booster, then this will be fine as a quick test.

Thanks,

Steve

Hello @Maustin,
The connectors are different from the MAX routers for Cellular and GPS to the Wi-Fi connections, on the MAX routers the:

  • Cellular connections is SMA Female
  • GPS connections is SMA Female
  • Wi-Fi connection RP-SMA Female (Reverse Polarity SMA Female)

Cellular & GPS
The SMA Female on the MAX router will have a hole for the pin from the cable

Wi-Fi
The SMA-RP Female on the MAX router will have a pin for the hole from the cable

WARNING
If you connect your cellular antenna into your Wi-Fi you will damage both connectors as the pins will be pushing against each other.

Connecting the Wi-Fi antennas to the Cellular connectors will have no effect and will leave an open circuit as these will be hole against hole.

On another note, most GPS antennas can also be used as a cellular antenna when plugged into a cellular modem, GPS connections supply a small voltage to activate some electronics within the antenna itself for GPS reception.

Happy to Help,
Marcus
