Setting up a new Balance 20x, I am attempting to manually update the firmware to version 8.3.0, but it has frozen at 72%, now for over 30 minutes. Aware of the risks of turning off the router during an update, I’m unsure of what to do. The router is connected to my old one, following Michael Horowitz’s advice to prevent new routers with outdated firmware from being online. Can anyone suggest a safe solution or confirm if I should power it off?
Update: I went to Chat GPT which suggested refreshing my screen because “the display might not always accurately reflect the progress of the update.”
Sure enough, upon refreshing I was brought to the router’s login page. After logging in, under System > Firmware I saw it is running version 8.3.0. Looks like it worked! I am left wondering why updating a router (and setting it up security) must be such a nail-biting experience.
next time ping -t it and you can watch it go offline and then come back online
