There are a ton of monitoring meters in the oil & gas and waste water industry that still use serial connections. It seems like Peplink is walking away from the oil and gas and waste water market. It is one thing to be cutting edge, it is another to walk away from a market while it is still active. There is a large market for communication hardware using serial connection(s)
Lack of serial port in the cell modem is going to prevent many O&G companies from buying peplink. while they like the set up, costs factor, and management… if it will not work with their existing meters or pumps it is unusable.
Companies with 1,000’s of monitors in the field are not going to switch out $3,000 meters in order to move to ethernet from serial
peplink needs to come out quickly with a mini like device with a serial port or serial capability device.
Peplink should consider having some customer advisory boards for different markets so they could get input on what is going on in the market place.
