Is there a reason that the Pepwave devices don't auto detect APN settings?

Hello!

If we insert our data SIMs from Rogers or Bell Mobility into a phone, or ZTE RocketHub, the APN is always automatically detected and they just work. With the BR1, HD2 and HD4 though on the latest firmware they never seem to detect it which creates issues in troubleshooting. We spent 3 hours trying to get 4 Bell SIMs working on a HD4 earlier after being told by Bell the APN is pda.bell.ca (which is the APN it has always been for our past deployments) but it wouldn’t work. Putting it on Auto never connected either, so we called Bell again just now and was told we need to use inet.bell.ca which made it start working immediately. This prevents us from shipping a device and SIMs to a customer separately and instead have to activate the SIMs in our office first then ship the device.

Is it supposed to be detecting the APN or is this an additional setting somewhere to make it work? Again any other device we use detects the APN so just wondering why the Pepwave equipment always needs it to be manually entered.

Thanks!

Hello @leemoreau,
I have tested this here with our SIMs in Australia and the Auto APN appears to be working fine, can I suggest you raise a support ticket on this with Peplink so they then have an actully tracable case, hopefully it is something simple for them to help you get fixed.
Out of interest have you checked in with any of the other Peplink Partners in the US to see if they are also having the same issue?
Happy to Help,
Marcus
