IP addresses and inbound traffic

Hi,

I am considering purshasing the Balance 30 but I’d like to know the following. Say we are load balancing two lines with two ISPs (ISP1 and ISP2) and have static IPs setup with say ISP1. Then if ISP1’s line goes down, will people still be able to connect via ISP2’s line using the IP address setup with ISP1.

Thanks,

Graeme

Hi Graeme,

If the ISP1 line goes down, then so will the Static IP associated with it. Inbound traffic can be routed across ISP2’s static IP (or Dynamic DNS) address no problem.

If you are looking for a way to accomplish this without having to give customers/users a different IP address, then you would want to take advantage of the Authoritative DNS feature that is available on the Balance 210 or higher:

Thanks,
