Interface Congestion, Prioritization, QoS on a Balance

Hello,

I am struggling with a low bandwidth service and how to improve user experience using a balance. I would like to show here my questions about this:

Scenary:

  • VSAT Service “up to” 1 Mbps
  • Average traffic 400kbps

(Let´s talk just about upstream)

If I define WAN bandwith as 1 Mbps. (Interface between Balance and VSAT modem)

  1. I assume it will apply BW control and QoS rules once you reach that 1Mbps value.
  2. What happens when VSAT bw is 400kbps and there is packet congestion? Will balance apply its rules even total bw is not even close to 1Mbps?

On this 2nd case, knowing that bottle-neck is in the VSAT modem, router will send up to 1Mbps and queues are to be in the modem. Is there any way to prioritize some queues from the Balance?

On thi other hand, if I select WAN bandwitdth value as 400kbps, I belieave I am limiting its speed even service is much higher. (I tested this on the lab and confirmed you actually limit interface speed with this value)

I see in outbound policy, Protocol section, you can chose DSCP Marking, but I am afraid this is not to be marked but to read the mark as another condition to check before applying the outbound rule…

is there any way to prioritize (Send before other packets) specific traffic (from network, user, app, etc.)?

I would appreciate any clarification of this Prioritization/QoS

Thank you all in advance,
