From a support perspective, having the ability when someone has configured a network and has the troubles that you just dont know what they did it is usually someone with not very many devices, Having the ability to factory reset IC2 to factory default settings, not only is beneficial when troubleshooting as it allows you to not have to sit there for hours and go through every setting to try and diagnose an issue, It also provides the ability to start fresh when teaching a partner or customer, and show them the setup from the exact begining, So if what they did was just completely wrong and they didnt know what they were doing and just thought they did, You can set one up in front of them and give them a model to teach them this is how you do this, Right out of the box. Im not reccommending this be a publicly available feature as people may not use it correctly, and it should be similar to support CGI in that its sort of a tech support link giving the ability to reset the interface to factory defaults to teach and help as they learn. I feel this would benefit everyone who deals with people trying to use IC2 for the first time.
I’m not sure what you’re asking for here. Could you clarify?
Device level factory reset is already available in the web ui (System > Configuration) of course:
but I assume you mean something different as you mention IC2 as well?
Do you mean being able to factory reset the IC2 appliance (ICVA)?
Just a nuclear type option for InControl2 to take it back to the start, Reset IC2 not web UI, IC2 factory reset restoring IC2 back to defaults without group level etc, removes all devices and etc from it, Basically a reset for only IC2 that doesn’t touch the Web UI, so if someone put some “interesting” settings in IC2 those are removed and taken off.
Right, i am not aware of an IC2 Only reset, which takes back to the default IC2 Settings if that exists i apologize and was misinformed, If it does exist already in strictly IC2 Not the Web UI then this, is something im not aware of this, I mean. A strictly IC2 Reset that touches non of the Device level settings, make it available at the Organization and Group level Really Every level, Provide a Nuclear Reset Option. This is what i mean, Something that allows you to not have to troubleshoot configurations at individual level so in cases where someone doesnt have a great understanding of what they are doing, and creates a bunch of random settings you can just restart it and start fresh, If this is already available, Could you clarify to me where this is? I dont mean the Web UI on the Device, Just an ability to reset every level, Organization, Group, And Device level back to defaults.
Sorry, I didnt know the difference between IC2 and ICVA i mean this
Ah OK got you.
The way I would do this is actually to create a brand new organisation in InControl. That is a default / clean / reset organisation.
Then migrate devices from old org to new one.
Yeah, I absolutely agree that that is a solution and a good one. Sometimes it becomes tricky if someone has quite a few groups with many many devices, and all they have is a list of IMEI to input and you have no idea what settings they changed, I just felt that perhaps it would be helpful in certain situations where you cant just do that, because there’s a few small situations where doing that is a headache. Its nothing like major, But its just a feature that if given access in a “hidden” location such as what support cgi is, Would be beneficial in my opinion. It would give the option to reset at the problem level, be it device, group or organization and that would make it much simpler when diagnosing where the problem is etc. Having this is normally a feature in most web applications ive spent time around, even chrome gives you the ability to restore Network, Extensions and etc individually to factory defaults in the settings. Just an idea, I really appreciate you taking the time to respond and i am a huge fan of your knowhow.peplink.ninja page, I use it every day its an amazing resource thanks for all your contributions to the community!
