I represent a small company that provides services in the field of marine communication solutions on ships.
As part of the modernization of our communication network, we became interested in solutions based on Peplink devices.
At the moment, we have a Mikrotik Router (CRS125-24G-1S-2HnD) installed on our ships, paired with a small “server” that controls it, switching WAN sources and counting traffic. All this is controlled by our own system, which is significantly inferior in capabilities to the Peplink InControl system.
Our ships are equipped with Iridium, VSAT, LTE (near the coast), and now we are actively installing Starlink.
In addition to Internet access, several WiFi networks (crew and business), VoIP telephony, sometimes video surveillance and TV are deployed on ships. We also have our own fleet tracking system.
We paid attention to Peplink devices, as they take into account the specifics of marine solutions, have a good interface and high potential for integration, can switch WAN sources and take into account the features of managing expensive satellite channels.
We chose the Peplink B-ONE-PLUS-L router as a replacement for our “server”, due to the presence of LTE, several WANs and the ability to switch them given the cost of satellite channels, but we doubt the correctness of the choice.
Thanks in advance for advice,
Sincerely,
Denis Zhurbenko
