Do I have to do anything to make the SD Switch work on incontrol?

I have the Balance 305 and just added the SD Switch. The switch is working as traffic is going through it, but I can’t add it to incontrol2. I added the serial #, it shows it and my purchase date, but then just shows it as offline. I’ve rebooted everything numerous times, it never changes. Deleted it, readded it, always just offline. It didn’t come with any manual in the box and I can’t even find a manual online other than some half page release notes. Do I need to connect the switch to the balance using a particular port or something?

When I first configured an SD-Switch, I had to go to the port I wanted to use as an uplink to IC2 and change the connection from none to DHCP and that seemed to do the trick.

I agree not having a manual or quickstart guide was a little odd :frowning: good luck!

PS: I configured the switch via the management port on the switch since the Console port is apparently under development.

Hello @psychobunny,

These notes are based on an article/guide to setting up Static IPs for the Peplink SD Switch when it is being managed from InControl2, we also had challenges with getting several SD-Switches to work and through collaboration with Peplink’s support team worked this out. The guide has not been published as yet, currently titled “How to set Static IP on SD Switch remotely when using InControl2”.

How to set Static IP on SD Switch remotely when using InControl2

We have had situations where the SD Switch has found a gateway from another DHCP service within a VLAN running through the switch that is not meant for the switch to use with InControl2.

If you can regain access to the switch though InControl2, this is what can be done to correct the situation, you may also like to wire in the Management port for out of band support.

Make a “Management VLAN” on VLAN #1 in the InControl VLAN
Log into the SD Switch

Navigate to the System menu
Choose InControl
Deselect “Allow InControl Management”
Select Save DO NOT SELECT “Apply Changes”

Navigate to the Configure menu
Select the “Management VLAN”
Change Connection Method to “Static” and fill in your required static details
Select Save DO NOT SELECT “Apply Changes”

Navigate to the System menu
Set your Security to HTTPS (highly recommended)
Change Web Admin Access to “Management Port / VLAN”
Choose in Allowed VLAN Network “Management VLAN (1)”
Select Save DO NOT SELECT “Apply Changes”

Navigate to the System menu
Choose InControl
Select “Allow InControl Management”
Select Save DO NOT SELECT “Apply Changes”

Navigate to the Dashboard menu
If you are happy with your planned changes to the settings the select Apply Changes else select “Discard changes” and seek further assistance.

Happy to Help,
Marcus
