Can a powered-off device be damaged by lightning through antenna?

If a BR1 mini is connected to an 9 dBi omni antenna inside a building, can it be damaged by lightning if the BR1 mini it is powered off? Would you disconnect the cellular antenna during a close lightning storm in addition to powering off the device?

Inside? Probably not. Actually, we place a lot of antennas inside (or alongside) structures for that very reason. Sometimes it’s worth a couple (or few) dB to protect the electronics and maintain continuity of the enterprise…

If the antenna is inside with no real path from the lightning the only concern then is induced current. While we’ve heard of such damage I don’t think we have ever seen it. (Others may have different experiences.)
