Bandwidth cost of idle PepVPN connection

I have two Balance 30s - one of them connected through an expensive (per GB) cellular carrier.

I would like to have a permanent PepVPN connection between the two, configured with (e.g.) inControl 2 (which is marvelous, btw.).

What bandwidth usage can I expect from an idle PepVPN with no encryption and infrequent (every 15 s) failure detection?

Below is the bandwidth usage when PepVPN tunnel is idle. Please take note this doesn’t involve when the PepVPN tunnel in the situation of up/down.

  • Each 10 seconds (routing health check) = 96 bytes
  • Each 15 seconds (tunnel health check) = 480 bytes
