I’m using a Peplink 20, added a few local DNS entries for an internally hosted server. Connected workstations don’t pick up those local entries at all and push name lookup to primary DNS.
Am I missing a step other than enabling DNS Proxy and defining the sites I want handled locally?
Thanks,
Tim
Are the workstations set to use your balance LAN address for DNS?
Thanks for the reply Don. I did some testing and realized that was the problem. DHCP hands out 8.8.8.8 and 8.8.4.4, I thought the local entries would still get caught. Realizing now I have to point workstations to Peplink in order for that to work.
Tested that yesterday and it worked fine.
You can use that method of manually setting DNS on the workstation but thats the hard way.
On your Balance > LAN page under DNS servers, you should check the box that says “assign dns server automatically.” Using this option the workstation will receive the router’s LAN as DNS when the workstation receives a DHCP address.
The Balance then uses the actual DNS server you specified on the WAN page, for the specific WAN port being used at the time.
Just check that box and your problem should go away.

Don…thank you! That was exactly what I needed to do, it’s working perfectly.
