B-One Double Nat with Eero 6 pro mesh

Just wanted to stop by and share my config. There are older posts on this but wanted to provide a fresh post in case it might help someone.

My Peplink showed up today. I ran cat6 to a new location for my cable modem and T-mobile home internet. Connected those cables to the wan ports on the peplink and they both lit up and I was able to access the internet from the peplink wifi radio ap. This was about as easy as it could be. Setting up priority and load balancing in the outbound policy was just as easy.

Next task was setting up my existing Eero pro 6 mesh. I’ve been pretty happy with the mesh from Eero so I didn’t see any need to waste money on new access points if Peplink supported using third party. I debated on setting it up in bridge mode or double nat. I like the visibility and control eero gives me in the app so I wasn’t thrilled about losing that control by placing them in bridge mode. Now I haven’t confirmed I would lose control but there are posts out there stating this is the case.

I went ahead and double natted……for now. I took the wan cable on the eero gateway and plugged it into the LAN1 port. Changed the port type from trunk to access. Waited for DHCP and boom the Peplink assigned an ip address on the .50 network. Pretty easy and no hassle. I tested connectivity and speed with no issues.

Now ive heard problems with latency and issues with gaming. We are talking about one hop in my home network, latency is not an issue. I can’t comment on gaming yet but I will edit my post if I run into issues, but I don’t see why I would.

My problem with double nat is that all my devices sit behind the eero gateway. This means everything leaving the eero is coming from the single ip address of the eero and not individual unique device ip’s. Not a deal breaker but it’s a bit annoying but I knew this going in. As I get more comfortable with the peplink interface I may set it up in bridge mode and let Peplink manage the devices.

Overall very pleased and I’m really impressed with the ease of the GUI. I was a little concerned that it would be sluggish and quaint but I’m happy with it, functionality over eye candy.
