LAN side of Balance 20X has port 60660 open. Why?

An nmap scan of the LAN side of my Balance 20X (HW3 running firmware 8.2.1) showed TCP port 60660 open. What is it and can it be closed?

Screen shot below:

A more detailed nmap scan, shown below, shows port 60660 has to do with GPS location data:

This isn’t surprising as Appendix E of the manual lists TCP 60660 as used for exactly that (Outbound).

However, the manual also shows this is Disabled by default and since I do not have GPS forwarding enabled on the unit, I am not expecting to see that port open…

Thanks in advance.

Hello @Charlie456,
You might like to restest with the new beat release 8.3.0RC3 ( Peplink | Pepwave - Forum ) to see if the issue (the open port) has been resolved.

Happy to Help,

Thanks Marcus

Get exactly the same result running nmap with 8.3.0RC3…so appears the new firmware doesn’t fix this bug (seems a bug?).

It is not a bug. Please refer to this thread - Overview of ports used by Peplink SD-WAN routers and other Peplink services - #5 by ue-it

@Charlie456 ,

In firmware 8.3.0 under the support.cgi page , you can now disable the GPS service. Please disable the GPS Service and the TCP 60660 will no longer in use.
